Harbour Dockside Crane
Thursday 10th March 2011
Harbour Dockside Crane - update
The crane may now only be operated by Harbour employees, who have been trained, or commercial operators who have signed a legal agreement with Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners, provided copies of their public liability and employee insurance, and have put named employees through the crane training programme.
The crane may be booked in advance by contacting Reception at the Harbour Office.
______________________________________________________
Repairs to the harbour's dockside crane have been completed by Jones Cranes Ltd. It has also been inspected by Austin McLean, but we await their written confirmation that we can put the crane back into use. We expect this to be early in January.
Following advice from our insurers and our designated person under the Port Marine Safety Code, the rules for operation of the crane are to be changed.
In future the crane can only be operated by Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners' employees who have been trained in crane operation, or commercial licence holders (including the Royal Solent Yacht Club) whose named employees have the appropriate training and an acceptable level of Public Liability Insurance.
There will be a charge for the time of YHC employees who operate the crane, at the published rates for labour. The minimum charge is for 30 minutes.
Further information will following in January.
