Appointment of Harbour Commissioner
The board of Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners is appointed on a staggered basis, over a three-year period, to ensure continuity. Applications are now being sought for a new Commissioner and the successful candidate will be appointed from 1 June 2021.
The board aims to find Commissioners with a wide range of experience to advise and support the harbour, therefore applications are invited from all candidates, however a business or marine background would be advantageous.
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate ability and a proven track record in their chosen profession or other activities. Most importantly applicants should be able to demonstrate an independent and impartial approach to decision making.
The role of Commissioner is unpaid, although reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Harbour Facilities Assistant (HFA)
(Temporary part-time positions)
HFA 1 – to start in April until October 2021 (Government guidance permitting)
HFA 2 – to start in May until September 2021 (Government guidance permitting)
(between 3 and 5 x 6-hour shifts per week)
Required to assist the Harbour Facilities Co-ordinators in the day to day running of our busy Harbour Office.
Your aim will be to provide the highest level of customer service to harbour users at all times.
This role involves a variety of manual handling tasks, working outside, collecting fishing permit fees from anglers on the pier, operation of the Yar swing bridge and the operation of the fuel berth (including administering fuel).
In this diverse role you will be operating tills, handling cash, carrying out a variety of administrative tasks, as well as undertaking cleaning and tidying duties.
A rota system is in operation covering 7 days a week including unsocial hours/weekends and Bank Holidays (shift lengths and weekly hours vary throughout the season). Flexibility within the rota is absolutely essential.
You will be an excellent communicator able to demonstrate exceptional customer service, matched by similar organisational, telephone and IT skills. Due to the nature of this role you will also need to be physically fit and active.
The Reception Manager requires someone who is punctual, reliable, hardworking, friendly and very approachable. A knowledge of the local area will be advantageous.
Harbour Facilities Coordinator (HFC)
(Temporary part-time position)
HFC – to start in April until October 2021 (Government guidance permitting)
To cover maternity leave from the beginning of May until the end of October.
This role is 32 hours per week comprising of 4 x 8-hour shifts. A morning shift is 0630 – 1430, an evening shift is 1400 – 2200, and a middle shift is 0900 – 1700. A rota system is in operation covering 7 days a week including unsocial hours/weekends and Bank Holidays. Flexibility within the rota is absolutely essential.
Joining our harbour facilities team in the day to day running of our busy harbour office, your aim will be to provide the highest level of customer service to harbour users at all times.
This role involves a variety of manual handling tasks, working outside, making bookings for customers over the phone and in Reception including taking payment, ordering stock which includes fuel, cleaning products and items for sale in the reception. Working alongside the HFA you will also be delegating tasks to them, ensuring the facilities are kept to a high standard for our customers and keeping the reception well stocked at all times. You will also communicate with the berthing masters regarding customer requests and queries using the VHF radio. You will also respond in an emergency situation (Fire alarms, coastguard, evacuation of offices). Training will be given by way of induction into this role.
