About Yarmouth Castle
Fascinating Yarmouth Castle is well worth a visit during your holiday in West Wight.
Completed in 1547, Yarmouth Castle was once one of Henry VIII’s most sophisticated coastal fortresses. The castle, at the mouth of the River Yar, was well situated to protect the western part of the Isle of Wight and guard the entrance to the Solent.

Castle Battlements
Climb up to the battlements and take in the breath-taking views across the Solent whilst enjoying a picnic in the picnic area by the cannons.
Then step inside to see how the castle was used in the 16th century. There’s also an exhibition telling the story of the many shipwrecks that happened in the Solent not far from the castle.
